Forsale – Artist talk by Lea Kukovičič (SLO)

Lecture performance

Open program in Bethlen Café

Theatre is useless since it does not provoke the neoliberal need to spend money. In this artistic lecture, the artist Lea Kukovičič extensively analyses the project FORSALE, a conceptual artwork that goes beyond the limits of theatre and plays with the principles of economy. FORSALE is a performance auction house established in 2021. It is the very first auction house in the world that sells theatre performances. The first auction was held in Slovenia at the contemporary performing arts festival Mladi Levi when the performance Ich kann nicht anders by the Slovene collective Beton Ltd. was sold. The average sale share was over 65%, higher than in the world-renowned auction houses such as Sotheby’s or Christie’s. FORSALE is an auction house, yet an intriguing conceptual artwork with provocative content created by Lea Kukovičič who (together with an extensive team of collaborators) stepped right into the void of the most trusted and hyped fiction: money (and law). The lecture performance FORSALE reveals the layers of mechanisms beyond money (and law) and maps the kind of theatre where one needs to step into the heart of darkness with other people. Because FORSALE is not about care or about theatre. FORSALE messes with the economy.
